A Nekoosa-area dairy operation will pay $245,000 to settle state claims involving wastewater discharge violations.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice announced the agreement Friday, following allegations that Central Sands Dairy improperly spread manure on crops, leading to groundwater contamination.
State officials also alleged the farm failed to complete required improvements to its manure storage facilities.
Under the settlement, the dairy must permanently close and abandon its waste storage facilities in Juneau County by July 2027.
