Day two of the Timothy Hauschultz trial continued today (October 13th) at the Manitowoc County Courthouse.
Day two’s proceedings began with District Attorney Jaclyn LaBre and defense attorneys giving the jury their opening statements, with the state doubling down on Timothy being responsible for issuing the punishments that ultimately led to his great-nephew Ethan Hauschultz’s death, while Defense Attorney Donna Kuchler outlined that Ethan died “tragically” at the hands of his cousin Damien Hauschultz.
The first two witnesses called to the stand included medical professionals working at Holy Family Hospital where Ethan was brought on the day of his death.
Both individuals delivered their recollections of April 20th, 2018, the state Ethan was in upon arrival at the hospital, and the treatment they administered in an effort to save his life.
Then Special Agent Kevin Hayes with the Wisconsin Department of Justice took the stand as he served as Deputy Sheriff in Manitowoc County at the time.
He also recalled what happened on the day of Ethan’s death, including questioning of Timothy at the hospital and at his residence.
Numerous other witnesses included members of law enforcement involved in the investigation following Ethan’s arrival at the hospital, with evidence presented including photos of Ethan’s injuries, interview recordings, and images of the Hauschultz residence.
The final witness called to the stand was retired Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office Detective Michael Herman, who observed, documented, and collected evidence from the day of Ethan’s death at the Hauschultz residence.
However, in the early stages of his testimony, Judge Carey Reed called for the proceedings to halt for the day.
Day three of the trial will continue tomorrow (October 14th) with further witness testimony.
Hauschultz is standing trial for charges of Neglecting a Child, Consequence is Death, and Intentionally Contributing to the Delinquency of a Child Resulting in Death.
