Charges are no longer being pursued against a woman believed to be a part of a major drug trafficking operation.
According to FOX11, a Brown County judge has dismissed all five charges filed against Kyla Sanache after the Wisconsin State Public Defender’s Office failed to find her an attorney.
A letter was submitted to the court, in which the Public Defender’s Office claimed that they tried over 1,000 times to find a lawyer for Sanache, but due to the backlog in cases, none were able to take the case.
It is estimated that there are 5,000 or so backlogged cases in Brown County alone, and more than 500 people have waited two years or longer to see a judge.
Sanache was facing five charges, including Manufacturing or Delivering over 50 Grams of Fentanyl and Maintaining a Drug Trafficking Place, charges that may be refiled in the future.
