A recent rummage sale in Manitowoc has led to a significant donation to help those in the community experiencing homelessness.
Last month, the Women of Worship from St. Paul Lutheran Church held their annual rummage sale, netting $2,000 for the Manitowoc Warming Shelter Building Fund.
Yesterday (October 7th), that money was presented to Pastor Matt Sauer, who accepted the donation on behalf of the Warming Shelter with extreme gratitude.
“(I’m) really excited to be here and want to say thank you, thank you, thank you,” Pastor Sauer told the Women of Worship. “Not only for monetary gifts, but just for opening your hearts and your space to make this happen.”
Carol Entringer, the rummage sale’s organizer, also spoke with SeehaferNews.com and explained, “I’m a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and I volunteer in different areas of the church, one being in charge of our annual rummage sale. Every year we donate money back to the community in some way, shape, or form. So, this year we decided to give some of the money to the building fund for the Warming Shelter because we’re going to be hosting at this year.”
As Entinger mentioned, while the money will help construct a permanent home for the Warming Shelter, St. Paul Lutheran Church will serve as the Shelter’s temporary home this winter, offering guests a place to stay and a warm meal every night.
This is something Pastor Sauer believes is more than just a simple luxury.
“These are things we all embrace and believe in. Housing is a human right. It’s not something that gets conferred upon some and not others. And so, we have a community that is walking along with us on that, and you’re taking the lead this year. It’s awesome,” Sauer said emphatically.
At this time, a location for the permanent home of the Manitowoc Warming Shelter remains undetermined.
St. Paul will begin welcoming guests for the season on November 12th.
