The single biggest day of volunteering work in Sheboygan County is in the books in more ways than one.
The United Way of Sheboygan County’s Day of Caring was officially held on September 24th, bringing together well over 1,000 community members to volunteer with the aim of making their neighborhoods a better place to live.
The United Way’s Director of Marketing and Outreach, Meagan Van Ahn, spoke to SeehaferNews.com on what this year’s event looked like.
“This is my third Day of Caring now, and every year we’ve just been increasing and increasing,” Van Ahn explained. “We had people from as young as 4K and kindergarten all the way up to people in their 80s and 90s volunteering. But there’s something beautiful about doing it all together on the same day and showing that we can all do something little, but together we can be great.”
She also explained how, each year, Day of Caring inspires even more individuals and businesses to get involved in the community even after the event comes to an end.
“Not only do we get an increase of people saying, ‘Hey, I saw something about Day of Caring, I wasn’t able to be involved, or I didn’t know about it. How can I get involved in volunteering?’” she told us. “It’s definitely like one of our peak traffic times of the year when we see a lot of people visiting our website and learning more, not just about Day of Caring, but about United Way more broadly.”
While the annual event is in the books, this year’s Day of Caring is also in the record books as the largest such event in the nonprofit’s history.
Day of Caring 2026 saw 1,400 volunteers completing 4,827 hours of work, generating just under $175,000 of local economic impact.
Each of those figures is a record high for the United Way of Sheboygan County which also had a record 26 business sponsors for the event as well.
To close, Van Ahn finished with a message to all of those volunteers, businesses, and community partners who helped play a part in making this year’s Day of Caring the most impactful to date.
“I just want to say thank you so much. You know, this day doesn’t happen without all of you,” Van Ahn said with gratitude. “It doesn’t matter if you’re a sponsor or you’re a volunteer or you’re a nonprofit partner. None of that happens without you and your partnership on that event. So, thank you so much to all of those people for making that happen.”
