Two Oshkosh teens have been arrested for stealing firearms and other items from vehicles.
The Oshkosh Police Department began investigating a string of thefts on September 27th.
Since that date, 33 individual instances were reported to police, 14 of which involved unlocked vehicles, and three firearms were stolen.
This also included an incident where two loaded handguns were stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Monday.
The Department has since taken three people into custody.
A 16-year-old male was caught in the 1000 block of Witzel Avenue after a short chase.
During his arrest, he also pulled out a handgun but was quickly disarmed, though not before an officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The teen was charged with Endangering Safety by Use of a Dangerous Weapon, Felony Resisting-Causing Injury to Law Enforcement Officer, Theft of a Stolen Firearm, and Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
Meanwhile, a 15-year-old male was arrested in the 1000 block of Durfee Avenue without incident on charges of Burglary, Theft of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Habitual Runaway.
Lastly, a 46-year-old woman was also arrested at the home on Durfee Avenue on charges of Misdemeanor Bail Jumping, Felony Possession of THC (2nd offense), and Contributing to Delinquency of a Minor.
The Oshkosh Police Department pleaded with vehicle owners to “help prevent vehicle break-ins and keep firearms out of the hands of juveniles by removing all valuables from vehicles. Always lock your vehicle, close the windows completely, and avoid leaving items such as purses, wallets, firearms, electronics, and keys in plain view. If you must transport a firearm, secure it and do not leave it unattended in an unlocked vehicle. Firearms that are stolen by juveniles can have serious and potentially life-changing consequences.”
