A Green Bay man accused of attempted homicide against his girlfriend will be standing trial.
63-year-old Floyd Simmons was back in court yesterday for a competency hearing as he faces charges of Attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide, Strangulation and Suffocation, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Threat to Cause Bodily Harm to Certain Individuals Involved with a Court or Legal System.
It was determined that Simmons is competent to stand trial, and the proceedings were reinstated.
Simmons had reportedly gotten into a dispute with his girlfriend over rent and grabbed her by the neck.
While he was being taken into custody, he reportedly told police he should have stomped on her neck and killed her.
He also allegedly kicked a squad car door and yelled racial slurs at them.
Simmons remains in the Brown County Jail on a $100,000 cash bail and is due back in court for a plea hearing on November 6th.
