A non-US citizen has been charged with voting in a recent election.
Brad Schimel, First Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, has announced the charging of 30-year-old Sara Luma with Unlawfully Voting as a Non-Citizen.
It was learned that Luma was born in North Macedonia and is a citizen of that country. Despite not being eligible to do so, Luma is accused of participating in the November 5th, 2024 election in the City of Sheboygan.
Luma allegedly registered to vote on the same day as the election and signed the Wisconsin Voter Registration Application form falsely certifying that she was a citizen of the United States.
Immigration court records indicate that Luma was taken into custody when seeking to re-enter the United States in August, and she was allowed to self-deport back to North Macedonia.
If Luma attempts to reenter the United States, she will be subject to arrest on a warrant issued in the case.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Schimel noted, “Protecting the integrity of our elections is critically important…I hope this case and others that may follow will educate people on the law and serve to deter any non-citizen from voting illegally.”
