A local nonprofit has moved one step closer to providing yet another family with an affordable home in Sheboygan.
At this week’s City Plan Commission meeting, the group unanimously approved a conditional use permit (CUP) submitted by Habitat for Humanity Lakeside to construct a single-family home in the 2200 block of Indiana Avenue.
The proposed house would be just over 1,000 square feet, with three bedrooms and one bathroom, and would be home to a family of three, including a single parent and two children.
If fully approved, this would become the 57th affordable home built by Habitat for Humanity Lakeside and is expected to be completed in June of 2027.
With the unanimous decision from the Plan Commission, the CUP now moves in front of the City’s Common Council for full approval at a later date.
This home will be part of the nonprofit’s Home Buyers Program, which aims to offer low-income families the ability to gain homeownership, something Habitat Lakeside describes as “the foundation of generational wealth.”
