The Manitowoc County Walk to End Alzheimer’s is celebrating another successful year of fundraising.
Walkers from around the area converged at the YMCA in Manitowoc to collect money for the Alzheimer’s Association.
The event is expected to have raised more than $45,000, marking the second year in a row that much was raised, and the third year in a row the total was over $40,000.
Dave Grams, the Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association Wisconsin Chapter, praised the Manitowoc County community, saying, “To see hundreds of people come together, each with their own story and their own reason to walk, was incredibly moving. The joy, the energy, and the determination of this community give us strength and bring us closer to the day when we end Alzheimer’s for good.”
In Manitowoc County alone, over 2,217 residents age 65 and older are living with dementia, with that number projected at over 2,430 by 2030.
