A healthy newborn girl is in the care of child protective services after being surrendered at a Racine fire station.
Firefighters at Station Four immediately evaluated the infant Sunday afternoon before transferring her to Ascension All Saints Hospital to be checked out.
Officials say this is the second time a baby has been legally and anonymously surrendered at the location since the city installed its Safe Haven Baby Box in late 2024.
Under Wisconsin’s Safe Haven Law, parents in crisis can safely surrender an unharmed newborn up to 30 days old without fear of legal prosecution.
