As deer hunting season approaches, the Wisconsin DNR reminds hunters of their important role in Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) surveillance.
They tell hunters they want more samples from the 2026 Fall Priority areas near recent CWD detection locations.
That means hunters should get their deer tested at a Self-service kiosk, in person with cooperating partners, or by setting up an appointment with local DNR staff.
In Manitowoc County, there are four places to get deer sampled for CWD. They include Country Visions in Mishicot, at the Collins Wildlife Area, BRW Processing in Valders, and Kiel Fish and Game.
If a hunter gets a CWD-positive test result, the DNR will issue a replacement authorization to their Go Wild account within 2-4 days.
The DNR also reminds hunters to properly dispose of deer carcasses, which can reduce the chance of introducing CWD to a new area.
Manitowoc County’s first case of CWD was detected in a deer in January last year.
