It’ll be a busy Saturday in high school sports on the Lakeshore. First, multiple schools will converge on Meadow Links Golf Course in Manitowoc today for the Len Nikolai Cross Country Invitational. The meet is named in recognition of the Hall of Fame Coach who began his coaching career in 1968 as the head boy’s cross-country coach at Manitowoc Lincoln high school then took on the responsibility of coaching the Ships track and field team in 1982 and the girls cross country program at LHS in 1987, During his 45 year tenure, Nikolai led the Shipbuilders to 15 FRCC Cross Country championships, including six straight from 1968 to 1973 and brought at least one athlete to the WIAA State cross country meet a whopping 41 times. Races are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Meanwhile, Kohler, De Pere and Ashwaubenon are in the field of a meet hosted by Lourdes Academy of Oshkosh.
The Manitowoc Lincoln Ships host Green Bay West in their annual Homecoming football game this afternoon at Ron Rubick Field. Coverage begins at 12:45 p.m. on ‘WOMT 100” and womtradio.com
In Girls’ volleyball, Manitowoc Lincoln participates in the second day of the Lynn Laporte Sprawl at West Bend East High School. Matches are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Two Rivers is part of a seven-team Invitational at Algoma, and Valders is set to compete at an invitational hosted by Denmark. Both meets are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., and Sheboygan North, Oostburg, and Notre Dame Academy of Green Bay are part of The Kettle Moraine Invitational, hosted by Lake Country Lutheran High School, starting at 8 a.m.
In boys’ soccer, Roncalli travels to Omro, Plymouth travels to Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan North entertains Oostburg, Notre Dame Academy of Green Bay hosts New Berlin East, Bay Port heads to Wauwatosa East, and Kohler entertains Providence Academy of Green Bay, New London, and Ripon in a quadrangular starting at 9 a.m.
The Roncalli/Two Rivers girls tennis team concludes regular-season competition at the seven-team Sheboygan North Invitational, and the Roncalli/Two Rivers girls swim team travels to Plymouth for an Invitational hosted by the Panthers. Both are scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
