The Village of Mishicot was swarmed with cross-country runners from dozens of schools yesterday for the annual celebration of a young man taken too soon.
The namesake of the Annual Jim Bremser Invitational was a talented cross-country runner for the Indians, who was hit by a car during homecoming week in 1973.
Hundreds of runners honored his legacy during the 53rd annual race, including two local runners who earned top finishes.
Andi Gallagher and Leighton Erickson of Two Rivers finished 1st and 2nd in the 5,000-meter small school girls varsity race.
Andi’s time of 19:45.7 was just 8 seconds faster than Leighton, who outpaced the third-place runner by 3.5 seconds.
As a team, the Raiders finished 13th in the field of 30 teams, while Bay Port was first, Brillion finished 3rd, Mishicot was 5th, Manitowoc Lutheran was 9th, and Kiel was 14th.
As for the boys’ small school race, Manitowoc Lincoln was the top-performing local school, finishing 5th, while Roncalli and Mishicot went 8th and 9th, respectively, and Kiel was 25th, followed by Brillion and Reedsville.
