As pickleball’s popularity continues to explode across the country, a new dedicated racquet sports complex is set to open its doors in Kohler next week.
The Sports Core will open The Serve next Thursday (October 1st), offering guests a new destination for sport, wellness, and community engagement year-round.
While just a week from its grand opening, the new facility is a product of years of planning and hard work.
Kelly Monahan, the Sports Core’s Director of Racquet Sports, spoke to SeehaferNews.com about her role during the planning process.
“I really had to focus on how these three different sports of overseeing tennis, pickleball, and platform tennis, what that’s going to bring to the community, our members, and our hotel resort guests,” she explained.
As for what she and her team are hoping to accomplish with The Serve opening next week, Monahan said, “The big goal here is giving our community a space to enjoy the social connection, the movement on court, and giving another option for great event space.”
Another major point of emphasis of planning, aside from having a top-tier facility, was to have coaches and professionals that matched that same level of quality.
This includes former Taiwanese-American Olympic tennis player Connie Hsu and Pickleball Professional Brad Vaudt.
“I’m responsible for creating all of the programing that goes on these courts,” Vaudt explained. “From teaching lessons, I will be on court doing a lot of coaching, as I have done for many, many years, but I look forward to seeing those people back on court and being able to just see people enjoy the game.”
He also believes that one thing will set The Serve apart from the rest: community.
“The opportunities that we are providing, that this facility provides to our community, is just phenomenal. People look for the community, and I know that we will be able to create that here with the Sheboygan area and Kohler community,” Vaudt said.
In total, The Serve features six indoor pickleball courts, two outdoor platform tennis courts with heated surfaces allowing for year-round play, and both indoor and outdoor gathering spaces, offering diverse racquet sport activities for all ages and skill levels.
