One of the most prestigious high school cross-country meets in the Midwest takes place this afternoon.
The 53rd Jim Bremser Memorial Cross-Country Invitational will be held in Mishicot.
This co-ed event was founded in 1974 by then Mishicot head coach and math teacher David Kelly to honor Jim Bremser, who was killed during Mishicot’s Homecoming week in October 1973 when he was hit by a car.
Jim had been gifted with enormous talent, but most importantly, Jim was an even better person who is dearly missed by friends, family, and the Village of Mishicot to this day.

His sister Cindy had a stellar career at UW-Madison and went on to compete in the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics, placing fourth in the 3000-meter race.
Over 1,000 athletes representing more than 30 schools from northeast Wisconsin will be competing this afternoon, including all from Manitowoc County.
The first race is scheduled to begin at 3:50 p.m.
