An animal shelter in Sheboygan has reopened after an extended feline virus outbreak.
The Humane Society of Sheboygan County officially reopened its doors yesterday (September 23rd) following a near two-week closure as staff dealt with an outbreak of feline panleukopenia.
During the closure, staff undertook intensive cleaning, monitoring, isolation, and disease-prevention measures to protect the animals in their care.
However, the Humane Society added, “While we are deeply saddened that one kitten was lost to this serious disease, through quick action and extensive precautions, there were no additional fatalities. We could not be prouder of the staff and volunteers who made that possible.”
As of yesterday, the Humane Society’s normal operations resumed, including public viewing and adoptions during regular shelter hours and normal stray and surrender intake as well.
