The Verona Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam involving callers spoofing the department’s official phone number.
Fraudsters are using real officers’ names and threatening immediate arrest over fake warrants, missed jury duty, or ongoing investigations.
Police emphasize that officers will never call to demand money or request payments through gift cards, wire transfers, or mobile apps.
Authorities advise residents to hang up immediately if they receive one of these calls and verify any concerns by calling the department directly.
