Back to school can be an adjustment for kids, and Emplify Health reminds parents to make sure their kids have all the resources they need to make this transition as smooth as possible.
Having conversations about how school is going can confront small problems before they turn into big issues.
“Making space for honest conversation now can help prevent stress and anxiety from building up unseen,” says Dr. Simone Warrack, a pediatrician at Emplify Health.
These should be conversations, not interrogations, and they say that open-ended questions are the best way to go.
To make these conversations as smooth as possible, Emplify Health says that parents should pick a good time, listen more than talk, stay calm and nonjudgmental, reassure their child, and keep the door open for more conversations to follow.
These conversations may not be easy, but they are the best option to help kids transition into the school year.
