A former police officer from Middleton is heading to prison in a Winnebago County-linked child pornography case.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin has announced that Myles S. Schumaker will spend five years behind bars after being convicted of one federal charge of Attempted Transportation of Child Pornography.
Schumaker was found to have used the internet to communicate with a minor from Winnebago County.
U.S. Judge William Griesbach also explained, “The communications were sexual in nature and resulted in Schumaker traveling to a park-and-ride lot to meet the minor victim. He then proceeded to sexually assault the child in his vehicle.”
With the criminal justice system confirming that the 26-year-old sexually assaulted the minor child, it is unclear why or how he was not charged for these actions but rather just the attempted transportation of child sexual abuse material.
Likewise, his Exposing Genitals to a Child charges linked to the case in Dane County were also dismissed upon request from prosecutors.
Upon his release from federal prison, Schumaker will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
