Wisconsin’s governor has requested a Rapid Disaster Declaration from the U.S. Small Business Administration following the July tornado that hit Winnebago County.
Based on early damage assessments by the SBA, FEMA, and other staff, Winnebago County could receive federal disaster loans available to homeowners, renters, businesses, and nonprofits affected places like Menasha and Neenah.
Gov. Evers said, “Folks in Winnebago County have shown up for one another and persevered in the months since the July storms. Now, we need our federal partners to step up.”
Wisconsin Emergency Management says more than 2,300 properties were assessed, and FEMA has determined more than $8.2 million in assistance is needed to help the area rebuild. Gov.
If the SBA Rapid Declaration request is granted, homeowners could be eligible for up to $500,000 in property loans to replace their residence for losses not fully covered by insurance or other sources.
Up to $2 million would also be available for qualified business owners or most non-profit organizations to cover disaster losses.
