The Manitowoc man convicted of killing his cellmate at the Green Bay Correctional Institution has filed an appeal.
26-year-old Jackson Vogel was found guilty of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide with a hate-crime enhancer for the 2024 death of Micah Laureano, and was ordered to spend life in prison without the possibility of parole in 2025.
Vogel’s attorney filed an appeal yesterday (September 9th), specifically citing evidence brought up in trial that the defense team called highly graphic and irrelevant.
This includes cabalistic statements he made to a psychologist, which Vogel’s lawyer said had no bearing on the case since he was not charged with disfigurement of a corpse.
He also claimed the judge failed to instruct the jury on the affirmative defense of adequate provocation, which lessens the charges in 1st and 2nd-degree homicide cases.
No court date has been set to officially review the appeal.
