The Valders volleyball team is staying positive despite their early struggles.
The Vikings faced the defending state champion Manitowoc Lutheran Lancers earlier this season, but had the advantage of being on their home court.
The Vikings lost in straight sets (11-25, 12-25, 17-25), but there was still plenty of good things to take away from the opening match.
Amelia Reigles recorded 4 digs, Adriana Goetz got 5 blocks, Lucy Mills hit 5 kills, and Addison Schmidt recorded 5 assists.
Schmidt is also the team captain, and she is proud of the work that her teammates put in.
“I think we played good,” she said. “Especially because they were a hard team, and we all were talking, and when we were playing good, we were neck and neck with them.”
This game has shown the team what they still need to work on, and they will be using this to their advantage.
“I definitely think it’s going to fuel us, give us a lot of feedback on what we need to work on, on and off the court, and just improve for our next match,” Schmidt noted.
The loss dropped the Vikings to 4-6 on the season, but they have until next Tuesday to prepare for their next matchup, another home contest against New Holstein.
