A college credit program through the Manitowoc Public School District continues to help students.
Superintendent Lee Thennes sent out a memo, noting that the Classes of 2026 and 2027 will have 49 students enrolled in UW-Green Bay’s Rising Phoenix Program, with 46 expected for the Class of 2028.
The program was previously limited to 25 students.
Since its inception, 244 students have been admitted to Rising Phoenix, earning 9,733 college credits, and 164 students are currently on track to earn an associate’s degree while attending high school.
Thennes added that over the course of this year, 141 of the 149 admitted students completed the two-year program, representing a 95% completion rate.
The program is also helping students save money, with the district saying, “A student completing a 60-credit associate degree through Rising Phoenix may save as much as $13,384 in tuition alone compared with completing the same credits after high school at the regular UW Green Bay tuition rate.”
