
There are plenty of local high school athletic events on the calendar for today.
First up, a Thursday night high school football game of local interest, as the defending Big East Conference champions and undefeated Manitowoc Lutheran Lancers host the Cedar Grove/Belgium Rockets in the 2026 conference opener at Coach Heidrich Field.
The Lancers have defeated their first two opponents (Roncalli and Brillion) by a combined score of 57-7, while the Rockets are 1-1, having defeated Kenosha St. Joes 21-6 while falling last week to Mayville 23-0.
The Lancers have had the Rockets’ number as of late, winning the last three meetings.
This includes a 55-14 triumph in the Division Six state quarterfinals last November at Lancer Circle.
The kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Coach Heidrich Field.
In eight-man football, Gibraltar travels to Algoma, and Sevastopol hosts Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy.
In High School girls’ volleyball, Manitowoc Lutheran begins the defense of its Big East crown as they travel to Mishicot to battle the Indians, and Reedsville hosts Elkhart Lake/ Glenbeulah.
There’s a handful of boys’ soccer matches on the docket, including Manitowoc Lincoln hosting the Menasha Bluejays at Rubick Field. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Elsewhere, Roncalli hosts St. Mary Catholic; Kiel, off to a 4-0 start, entertains Sheboygan Christian/Lutheran; Oostburg is at Sheboygan Falls; New Holstein/Brillion is home for Cedar Grove/Belgium; Random Lake/Ozaukee visits Kohler; Denmark entertains Freedom; Kewaunee makes the short trip to Algoma and Peshtigo hosts Gibraltar/Sevastopol.
In co-ed cross country, a total of 36 teams are scheduled to compete in a meet hosted by De Pere. Teams scheduled to compete include Manitowoc Lincoln, Manitowoc Lutheran, Kewaunee, Plymouth, Sevastopol and Southern Door. Kiel is hosting a multi-school meet this afternoon, with teams scheduled to compete including Roncalli, Two Rivers, Mishicot, and Reedsville. Both meets are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Manitowoc Lincoln girls’ golf team is hosting the third FRCC mini-meet at Autumn Ridge Golf Course; the Manitowoc Lincoln girls’ tennis team has an FRCC Dual meet at Green Bay Southwest beginning; and the Manitowoc Lincoln girls’ swim team competes in a multi-school meet at Ashwaubenon.
