The world’s most profitable company has broken ground in the City of Sheboygan.
Shovels were formally put into the ground this week to begin the construction of a 200,000-square-foot Amazon delivery station.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, City leaders, including Mayor Ryan Sorenson, were joined by Amazon staff to commemorate the occasion and to celebrate.
In a public announcement, the City noted, “This project represents continued investment in our community and will bring new employment opportunities to the area while adding another major business to our growing commercial and industrial landscape.”
Through the approval process of the project, the City and Amazon received significant pushback from residents who raised a plethora of concerns regarding what would be put on the approximately 58 acres of land Amazon purchased for about $35,000 per acre, or just over $2 million.
The Amazon facility will be located at the corner of Stahl Road and South Taylor Drive inside the nearly vacant South Pointe Enterprise Campus.
If finished on schedule, Amazon hopes to open the delivery station next summer.
