The Reedsville School District is revising its injury-prevention and reporting procedures for sports.
Superintendent Michael Nate says it comes after Emplify Health by Bellin notified the district in June this year that they would not be able to fill the Athletic Training Contract.
The contract officially came to an end yesterday.
Nate says he’s reached out to all medical providers in eastern Wisconsin, local universities that offer athletic training programs, and local medical professionals.
However, the superintendent says all leads have been a dead end.
The Reedsville School District has been working with an online service provider that allows them to post events and then independently hire athletic trainers for events, but there is no guarantee that there will be coverage for all home events.
Reedsville First Responders and Valders Ambulance will be on site for football games and will work to have them on site for other large events.
From this point forward, if a student is injured, the burden will shift to the parents to decide whether to take the athlete to a medical provider for treatment or to evaluate on their own.
Coaches will only be able to apply preventive measures such as heat, ice, or tape.
Superintendent Nate finishes by saying that he understands it’s not an ideal situation and the Reedsville School District “continues to seek solutions in the short-term and long-term to ensure that we are providing the best services for our students.”
The district will provide updates as they become available.
