The UW Extension for Manitowoc, Door, and Kewaunee Counties is helping those in need keep their food seasoned.
Nutrition Coordinator Laura Apfelbeck tells Seehafernews.com that food pantries have been working together to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables while encouraging guests to cook and eat more meals at home.
But it can still be a challenge without the right seasoning.
Apfelbeck previously worked with Penzey’s Spices out of Milwaukee to provide them to Grow It Forward.
She was also able to get a donation of 192 jars of black pepper and 864 packets of other seasonings valued at over $4,800 for Peter’s Pantry in Manitowoc.
Tracy Bruce-Minehan says they rarely have spices at Peter’s Pantry, so having them allows food-insecure people to cook delicious, flavorful meals from scratch.
