Two years and two months after a fatal crash in Brown County, the woman behind the wheel has been sentenced.
21-year-old Laney Peters was in court yesterday (August 25th), where she was ordered to spend 12 years in jail followed by 12 years on extended supervision for her role in the crash that claimed the lives of Emma Daniels and Mee-Mingwa Phillips in June of 2024.
She was previously found guilty due to a no-contest plea on charges of Injury by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle and two counts of Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle.
WBAY reports that Peters was driving at a recklessly high speed with the two victims in the car when the vehicle left the roadway, went airborne, and landed in a tree.
A third passenger survived but suffered extensive injuries.
A restitution hearing has been set for November 10th.
