The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has confirmed cases of E. coli poisoning in the state.
17 confirmed cases of the bacteria were found in alfalfa sprouts grown by the Everything Sprouts brand, with one person being hospitalized.
DHS advises Wisconsin residents to check their homes for the alfalfa sprouts and to monitor themselves for symptoms of Salmonella and STEC infection.
Symptoms usually include stomach cramps and diarrhea with a low-grade or no fever.
Most people recover from E. coli within 5 to 7 days, but in some cases, STEC infections can lead to severe complications, including kidney failure and other problems.
More information on E. coli can be found at dhs.wisconsin.gov.
