Charges have been officially filed against a Reedsville man in a deer-dumping case.
Court records show 24-year-old Luis Rodriguez faces 46 misdemeanor charges, which include 16 counts of illegal shining of a deer, 15 counts of resisting a conservation warden, and 15 counts of hunting deer during a closed season.
The Wisconsin DNR investigated the incidents, which they say happened between December last year and January this year.
They first got a call about a deer carcass that was dumped near Hillview Road near Mishicot on January 2nd.
The deer’s head had been removed, and there were no signs it had been shot. When wardens met with Rodriguez, he initially told them he hunted only in Marathon County.
But after changing his story multiple times, the 24-year-old admitted to dumping the deer.
After being asked what he did with the deer head, Rodriguez told them he had taken it to be mounted.
The DNR would begin working to locate and recover the deer head and antlers that had been cut off.
The 24-year-old would later admit to shining a light on the deer, or using an artificial light, to stun it before shooting it.
Luis would also admit to registering bucks as does after he shot the deer sometimes and said he would give the deer meat away to friends before having it processed.
Some deer carcasses he shot and beheaded would end up in the dumpster of the Reedsville Sportsman Club.
After the DNR learned about multiple instances, they talked to Rodriguez again after a deer was found dead after being shot with a 9mm handgun.
The suspect would also be charged with that incident.
Rodriguez will make his initial appearance in Court Commissioner Jewel Scharenbroch’s courtroom next Thursday.
