The local iteration of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is just over a month away.
The Alzheimer’s Association will be at the Manitowoc/Two Rivers YMCA on Saturday, September 26th, as a part of the world’s largest event dedicated to Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.
The opening ceremony will begin at 9:40 a.m. ahead of the actual walk at 10:00 a.m. Kris Dykstra, the Chair of the Walk Planning Committee, says we are in a “crucial moment in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease” as there are new treatments being created and many effective lifestyle habits that support brain health, giving many affected genuine hope.
She also noted, “Together, we can create a brain-healthy future and work towards ending this disease.”
More than 7 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease while nearly 13 million family members and friends provide care to those afflicted.
In Wisconsin, there are more than 111,000 people aged 65 and older living with the disease and more than 206,000 caregivers.
Pre-registration at act.ALZ.org is encouraged, but not required.
