Wisconsin’s Sixth District congressman believes Congress will be able to provide some additional funding for the U.S. military, but not all of what President Trump wants.
Speaking on the WCUB Breakfast Club last week, Congressman Glenn Grothman says the president wants $350 billion to help “rebuild the military.”
Rep. Grothman says he doesn’t think Congress will give him anything near that.
“But we did pass a bill out of the House for $60 billion for the military and $12 billion for our farmers who are kind of being hurt right now due to the tariffs,” he explained. “And they are sitting on that bill in the Senate.”
Rep. Grothman says something will be passed because US munitions are starting to run out.
The Glenbeulah Republican says Trump is concerned with countries like China expanding their military.
In a memo from the White House, Trump’s plan for the 2027 federal budget would increase military funding that “exceeds even the Reagan buildup by approaching the historic increases just before World War II, a level that recognizes the current global threat environment and restores the readiness and lethality of our forces.”
