Manitowoc’s Downtown Farmers’ Market always draws a great crowd, but did you know there is another farmers market every weekend?
Amy Johnson and her family own Misfits Homegrown Farm to Table HomeGoods Store, where they raise beef and chickens on site.
The Johnsons host their own, much smaller, market every Sunday morning at the farm located at 8623 County Rd JJ in Manitowoc.
“The whole reason that we build this was to actually educate people,” Johnson explained. “To show them where their food comes from because that’s something that we’ve lacked for so many years.”
This family farm is very community-oriented.
They partner with tons of local businesses to help put on their farmers markets, which they do several times a year.
They are going to be having tons of vendors, fresh produce, and live music for everyone to enjoy.
This event is free and open to the public, and Amy says that there will be tons of parking, so everyone is welcome.
Their live music for the day will be put on by Nathan Decker, one of Amy’s regular customers, who will be playing some relaxing country music.
“We’re going to do a corn roast, and we’re going to fry up some burgers and hot dogs, and people can come and have a Sunday funday the Misfits way. So, you can just come shop, relax, and enjoy,” she told us.
Besides their farmers markets, Misfits Homegrown also has tours for people to sign up for to take a walk of the farm.
They often bring out local vets to participate in their tours, which are around 20 minutes long.
Another event they will be having is a Smoke Off for Fall Fest.
This will be on September 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Misfits Homegrown.
Here, they will have fresh smoked food, a petting zoo, and live music.
Amy says that this event is sure to be a blast for families to attend.
Johnson said, “What we strive to do is bring the farm to your table.”
Misfits Homegrown Farm to Table HomeGoods Store is open every Wednesday through Sunday, and they have tons of events for families to attend.
Their meat can be purchased right from the farm, or from Brillion Butcher Shop, Otto’s Meats, or Quality Cut Meats.
