A vacant gas station in Sheboygan has moved closer to reopening.
At this week’s City Plan Commission meeting, the group unanimously approved the conditional use permit (CUP) for Haran, LLC, which is looking to revive the now-vacant convenience store and gas station located at 2235 North Avenue.
Unlike many CUPs, the work to reopen the gas station is relatively straightforward, with Haran, LLC aiming to reopen the business for its original intended use, with no infrastructure work necessary to get the gas station back into operation.
However, any work to be done will be limited to a cosmetic interior refresh of the facility.
At this time, if reopened, it is expected to create approximately 8-10 jobs and see roughly 125 customers daily.
While fully approved, District 3 Alder and Plan Commission member Michael Close shared something he’d like to see in the future at this site if fully approved.
“I’m really glad to see that this site is getting new life,” Alder Close stated. “The only other point that I’d just like to make, I would love to see some investment in EV infrastructure in the future. So, if there’s ever any consideration for updating or upgrading this site in the future beyond what’s currently there, I would love to see something like that.”
With the unanimous Plan Commission vote, the CUP will now move in front of the Sheboygan Common Council for final approval in the future.
