A petition has been created to have Flock cameras removed from the cities of Manitowoc and Two Rivers.
The petition on Change.org notes that there are “30 Flock Safety mass surveillance cameras installed across our neighborhoods,” which the organizer says is “quietly transforming (Manitowoc and Two Rivers) into surveillance hubs without public consent.”
Many across the state have voiced concerns after several police officers have been caught using the cameras inappropriately.
Manitowoc County District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre previously told SeehaferNews.com, “They are not tracking anything. They are just a stationary camera. It’s the same as having a police officer standing on a corner writing down the license plates as they drive by.”
The petition organizer claimed otherwise, saying “they operate more like an unconstitutional digital dragnet, monitoring the movements of law-abiding citizens. Not only do these cameras track every driver’s movements in real-time, but they also collect this data indiscriminately, creating a database without clear consent or adequate protection of our privacy rights.”
Organizers have also voiced interest in hosting a rally outside city hall.
