A Manitowoc man is facing federal charges for distributing obscene visual depictions of children.
19-year-old Maurilo Mares was recently indicted on two counts each of Obscene Visual Depictions of the Sexual Abuse of Children and Commission of a Felony Sex Offense by an Individual Required to Register as a Sexual Offender.
Mares was previously arrested in Manitowoc on three counts of Sexual Assault of a Child, and two counts each of Repeated Acts of Sexual Assault of the Same Child and Incest with a Child.
In that case, he was accused of and admitted to having sexual contact with “at least three victims under the age of 12.”
Details of the federal case have not been revealed, but the statute he is accused of violating seems to show he created a drawing or other visual depiction of child sexual assaults.
If convicted on all charges, Mares is facing 50-100 years in prison.
