PETA is asking federal officials to investigate two incidents involving monkeys at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The animal rights group sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture alleging one monkey required a forearm amputation after being attacked through an opening used to provide food.
PETA also claims another monkey suffered severe injuries to its mouth after workers left interlocking doors unsecured, allowing neighboring animals to fight.
The group says the USDA has cited UW-Madison for eight animal welfare violations since 2024.
UW-Madison says it follows federal inspection requirements, reports incidents and takes corrective action when problems are identified.
