Harmony Café is getting ready for its big move.
The downtown Manitowoc coffee shop and eatery will be moving from its current location in Manitowoc to the Community Food Center at Grow it Forward.
Amber Daugs is the Executive Director at Grow it Forward, and she is very excited for this move.
She says that it will be easier to run and staff with everything under one headquarters, which will ultimately make their mission more effective.
“Our mission directly is to provide people with opportunities to grow, cook, share, and advocate for good food. So, bringing that to our Community Food Center just seemed to make sense for us,” she told us.
The café’s last day open will be August 15th, and Amber is unsure when it will be ready to open again.
Despite this, they will still have a café open at the Community Food Center during the transition to ensure that anyone who needs a hot meal can get one.
Daugs explained, “There’s been more of a demand on our community meals, and we’re trying to find a way to do more by doing less. Bringing those things back together really helps with strategy and how we utilize our resources.”
Despite the move, the old Harmony Café building won’t sit empty.
Kristy and Kevin DeLeon will be taking over the building, and in it they will put their own coffee shop, Sobermesa Coffee.
Up until now, Sobermesa has been a coffee vendor of sorts, operating at tons of events in Manitowoc and for Grow it Forward.
“They’ve been looking for an opportunity to grow their business and expand into this indoor opportunity, not just an external or outdoor opportunity for them,” Executive Director Daugs noted. “So, it’s a win-win for both of us.”
Grow it Forward is always looking for volunteers, donations, and sponsorships to help fund their mission of helping the people in this community.
This move is in the best interest of both Grow it Forward and the community that relies on their resources.
“You know, for our organization, being a non-profit, we are so community-oriented. So, to build relationships more intently with our community is another reason why we’re transitioning back to our headquarters,” she stated.
Amber Daugs and her staff are excited to have Harmony Café back in their headquarters.
