A man in prison for sexually assaulting a child in Sheboygan County will be heading to trial for similar charges in Manitowoc County.
46-year-old John P. Albright returned to court on Wednesday for a status conference as he faces one count each of First- and Second-Degree Child Sexual Assault.
As previously reported, it appeared Albright was heading towards a plea deal in this case; however, after this week’s hearing, that offer from the State has been revoked.
The State proposed a plea deal that would have seen the 46-year-old convicted and sentenced to 13 years in prison, running concurrent with the 13-year prison term that he is currently serving after being found guilty of Second-Degree Sexual Assault of a Child in Sheboygan.
Albright flat-out refused this plea deal and will now stand trial early next year.
Albright was the former Sheboygan Falls Assistant Fire Chief when he was arrested on his Sheboygan County charges, and the charges in Manitowoc County were filed less than two weeks after he went to prison.
Albright will be back in Manitowoc County court on January 20th for a pre-trial conference before his three-day jury trial starts on February 2nd.
