Manitowoc County will no longer provide snowplowing operations in three communities.
Manitowoc County Highway Commissioner Greg Grotegut recently sent a letter to the Villages of St. Nazianz and Whitelaw and the Town of Manitowoc, explaining that due to the ongoing shortage of highway maintenance workers and additional responsibilities handed down by the DOT, cuts had to be made.
In the letter, Grotegut stated, “The Highway Department continued to face staffing challenges that make it increasingly difficult to adequately maintain Interstate 43, state highways, and county highways while responding to emergencies and providing snow removal services for local communities.”
The Village of Whitelaw posted the letter on its Facebook page, noting “The Village is actively evaluating alternatives and reaching out to surrounding municipalities and contractors for snow removal services.”
