For the third time in two weeks, there has been an accident involving an e-bike.
The Sheboygan Police Department was called to the intersection of North 10th Street and North Avenue on Wednesday on a report of an e-bike vs. vehicle crash.
The responding officers learned that a 14-year-old Sheboygan girl was operating an illegal e-bike north on North 10th when she failed to stop at a stop sign.
She was then hit by a vehicle traveling west on North Avenue, which police noted had the right-of-way.
The girl and her 13-year-old passenger were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and the girl was cited for operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license and failing to stop at a stop sign.
This string of e-bike accidents began in Menasha on July 24th, when a child was run over by an e-bike in Jefferson Park.
Then, just one day later, a 14-year-old Zondakai Graves was struck and killed in Sheboygan while riding his e-bike.
The Sheboygan Police Department is reminding parents and the public that “not all electric bicycles are legal and that proper training and education should be considered before allowing children to operate e-bikes and e-motos.”
