A Manitowoc food pantry and an oral hygiene organization are collaborating to help keep people’s teeth clean.
UW-Extension for Manitowoc, Kewaunee, and Door Counties, America’s ToothFairy, and Peter’s Pantry are working together to increase the availability of oral hygiene products at local food pantries.
Nutrition Coordinator Laura Apfelbeck tells Seehafernews.com that poor oral hygiene can lead to tooth decay, gum disease, and chronic pain, making it more difficult to eat healthy foods.
Guests at Peter’s Pantry have also requested toothbrushes, toothpaste, and mouthwash, which can be hard to find. America’s ToothFairy stepped in to donate oral hygiene products.
The UW-Extension also noted that grant funding with help from Delta Dental of Wisconsin will assist in bringing dental supplies to 11 pantries in Door, Kewaunee, and Manitowoc Counties starting in November.
