Now that the City of Manitowoc officially owns the land of a former elementary school, what’s next?
Mayor Justin Nickels explained on his Facebook page that the city has owned several acres around the former Madison Elementary School after deeding land to the Manitowoc Public School District.
Nickels says several interested developers have toured the property and the city has opened a Request for Proposal.
There are currently no plans for specific development at this time.
The mayor also says Madison Elementary School will not be demolished yet either.
Any children wanting to use the playground can as well. MPSD has cleared out items they needed to reuse at other schools.
Nickels says as discussions continue with developers, the city plans to respect the neighborhood’s character while making sure most any plans continue to uphold the natural beauty of the surroundings.
Manitowoc’s mayor concludes by saying that the city will continue to keep everyone as informed as possible as the process moves forward and is encouraged by the strong interest the property has already seen.
