
Norman L. Hoefert, age 77, a Manitowoc resident, passed away peacefully with Carolyn at his side on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Magnolia Meadows Assisted Living, Manitowoc.
He was born November 1, 1948 in Wautoma, Wisconsin, son of the late Norman and Lucy (Hilgendorf) Hoefert. Norm attended Slinger High School, graduating with the class of 1966. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. On July 19, 1969 Norm married Carolyn Abel. In 1970, he began employment at Point Beach Nuclear Plant and also worked at Dairyland Power as well as Palo Verde in Arizona for a short period of time. He then returned to Point Beach where he worked for the remainder of his career, also serving with the International Nuclear Power Organization. He retired in 2003, but returned in 2005 as a contractor and consultant. Norman’s hobbies included bowling, skiing, scuba diving, and stock car racing. He also enjoyed gardening, wine making, and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.
Norm is survived by his wife: Carol Hoefert; his three children: Daniel (Janelle) Hoefert, Robert (Megan) Hoefert, and Sarah (Adam) Klug, six grandchildren: Logan and Mila Hoefert, Silas (Emily Klug, Isaac (Emily) Klug, Hans Klug, and George Klug; two great-grandchildren: Violet and Benjamin Klug; siblings: Patricia (John) Mannen, Richard Hoefert, Ann Knuth, and Marie (Jason) Hintz; two sisters-in-law: Susan Hoefert and Gloria Hoefert; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ken (Valerie) Abel, Kathy (Jim) Hollingsworth, Mary (Richard) Schweitzer, Jim (Diane) Abel, and Nancy (Ron) Loehr; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by four siblings: Darwin Hoefert, Ricky Hoefert, Kathleen (Jerry) Zahn, and David Hoefert; one brother-in-law: Glen Knuth; four nephews: Benjamin Knuth, Cory Hewitt, Michael Zahn, and Brian Hoefert; his father-in-law: Milton Abel (Lorraine); and his mother-in-law: Lucille Abel.
Cremation has occurred at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory, Manitowoc, and a memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4915 Hecker Road, Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Kingdom Hall.
