While veteran care for many mainly revolves around treatment for injuries sustained during their service, another big aspect of veteran care is their mental health.
There are many different options for veterans to receive mental health care, and Manitowoc County Veteran Service Officer Todd Brehmer explained on the WCUB Breakfast Club that it’s easier than some may think.
He noted, “(Veterans) do not need to be enrolled in VA health care to receive immediate mental health care.”
Brehmer gave a few examples of where vets can go to get the help they need.
“There is, of course, the 24-hour hotline that a veteran could call,” Brehmer explained. “They can also walk into a VA medical center. In this part of Wisconsin, the medical center is Milwaukee…The clinics in Cleveland and Green Bay don’t have 24-hour walk-in service.”
However, the aforementioned clinics do have services available during their normal business hours.
The Clement J Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Milwaukee is located at 5000 West National Avenue on the west side of the city, just south of American Family Field.
