The City of Manitowoc officially owns the land of a former elementary school.
Mayor Justin Nickels explained on his Facebook page that the Madison School property belongs to the city.
The city has owned several acres around the school after deeding land to the Manitowoc Public School District to build it.
Nickels says several interested developers have toured the property and the city has opened a Request for Proposal.
There are currently no plans for specific development at this time.
Nickels says as discussions continue with developers, the city plans to respect the neighborhood’s character while making sure any plans continue to uphold the natural beauty of the surroundings.
He’s also encouraged by the strong interest the property has already seen.
