A local cross country program with a proud history of success is gearing up for another season.
Marci Skaletski is in her third year of coaching Valders Cross Country, and she has big hopes for this year’s team.
She coaches the varsity, J.V., and middle school teams, so she definitely has her work cut out for her.
Despite the fact that coaching three teams is no small role to take on, Marci is ecstatic that she gets to help these kids succeed.
“The kids that we have are just fantastic,” she told SeehaferNews.com. “They’re hard workers. They’re getting faster every year. They’re getting smarter every year, which makes a big difference in their racing abilities.”
They do have a smaller team this year, and their varsity consists of mostly juniors.
As these student-athletes step into the role of being upperclassmen, Marci hopes they become the leaders that she sees in them.
“We’ll be a little on the slim side, but I think the kids, their camaraderie, the teamwork, the group that we have can more than make up for that,” she predicted.
The team’s first practice is on August 17th, but that doesn’t mean that they get a break for the summer.
There is a local community running club that all athletes are encouraged to join, but Marci trusts that each athlete will do what they need to ensure that they have the best season possible.
“We have a lot of potential,” she noted. “We just have to keep everybody healthy and keep all of our kids excited about it and have fun.”
Marci tells us she, as well as her athletes, can’t wait for the season to start, and everyone is excited to get the team together and get back to running.
