A new hobby and game store in Manitowoc is creating a new welcoming community.
Roll For Loot Games is located kitty-corner to the Manitowoc Public Library on South 8th Street.
The store has board games, role-playing games, trading card games, miniature games, and more.
But Owner Cory Card says, in a way, it’s a toy store for people who are kids at heart.
His wife Sarah also noted that if they don’t have a specific board or role-playing game, they can get it.
“We have a lot of really great distributors,” she explains. “So it’s like, we’re only limited by what we know. So, if there’s something you know that we don’t, let us know and we’ll bring it on the shelves.”
Since they’ve opened their doors, Sarah and Cory say the community has been fantastic for them.
They also credit the people who are coming to the store and making it their own.
“And we have not just amazing people that come and play at the store,” she stated. “They teach us their hobby. They teach us how to get good at their hobby. They give us advice. And that’s been our biggest goal. Let’s create a space people can come where they don’t feel like they have to shell out a boatload of money to spend time with family and friends. And the rest will happen.”
Cory and Sarah say they didn’t expect how many people say they want them to succeed and are invested in making sure they do well.
People gathered at Roll For Loot to play many games, including Magic: The Gathering, Warhammer, and Dungeons and Dragons, among others.

Sarah says the name of the store is kind of a funny story.
It comes from what happens after a person in a game like Dungeons and Dragons kills an enemy and then the enemy leaves loot behind.
Sarah says playing with five brothers, the roll for loot mechanic was used a lot.
“Whoever got the highest roll got to pick first,” she noted. “And so, it was sort of an homage to getting the good loot and bringing your friends in, and you all get a chance at good loot.”
Beyond having people coming to the store, Cory and Sarah say it’s the communities created inside that have been the best part of being open for 10 weeks.
Kids who may not have a place to go can come to Roll for Loot and can learn how to play a new game or can come find a space they feel welcome in.
The store is open from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Mondays; 10:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays; 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Fridays, and 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
Sarah and Cory will have an official grand opening on August 4th with a ribbon-cutting at 4:00 p.m.
