Court hearings have been delayed for a Manitowoc high schooler facing multiple child sexual assault charges.
17-year-old Rory Wilhelm was back in court yesterday (July 27th) for his initial appearance, as he has been charged with Fourth-Degree Sexual Assault and Felony Bail Jumping linked to an incident that occurred earlier this month at the Manitowoc Public Library.
During that hearing, it was noted that in his older case, where he faces a charge of First-Degree Child Sexual Assault, Sexual Contact or Intercourse with a Person Under the Age of 13, issues of competency were raised.
Court documents show that a competency evaluation found that “the defendant is not competent but is likely to regain competency within the statutory time limit.”
At that same hearing, it was revealed that Wilhelm and his legal counsel have filed a motion to modify the 17-year-old’s bail.
For these reasons, Judge Jerilyn Dietz chose to adjourn the initial appearance to allow the Assistant District Attorney time to review the competency report and bond motion.
That adjourned initial appearance has been set for August 3rd, however, Wilhelm will be back in court today (July 28th) for a status conference in the First-Degree Child Sex Assault case.
